Senegal hosts fifth Arab Poetry Forum with 15 poets

The forum forms part of Sharjah’s cultural initiatives aimed at supporting the Arabic language, strengthening the presence of Arabic poetry across the African continent and nurturing literary talent. It also seeks to build stronger bridges of cultural communication between Africa and the Arab world, while providing Arabic-speaking poets with a platform to showcase their literary experiences and creative work.

The forum was attended by Taha Sheikh Abu Khalid, representative of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, and Dr Ousmane N’Goujou Thiao, Head of the Arabic Language Department at Cheikh Anta Diop University, along with university professors, researchers, students and others interested in the Arabic language.

In recognition of the efforts supporting the forum, its general coordinator, Mohamed El Hadi Sall, expressed his appreciation to the Department of Culture in Sharjah for sponsoring the event. He also praised the support of the Ruler of Sharjah for cultural initiatives, highlighting the importance of this support in encouraging poets and strengthening the presence of the Arabic language.

He stressed that continued patronage would contribute to further developing cultural cooperation between Senegal and Sharjah.

The forum featured poetry readings in which participating poets presented examples of their literary experiences, reflecting their connection to the Arabic language and their passion for poetry, as well as the diversity of their perspectives, styles and forms of expression.

Poetry, the event highlighted, is a language that brings hearts together, a bridge connecting cultures and a broad space for communication and creativity.
