The Senegal Football Federation did not arrange medical insurance for its footballers for the 2026 World Cup, writes Championat.com.

According to the source, national team goalkeeper Edouard Mendy learned about this after a knee injury sustained in a group stage match against the Norwegian national team (2:3). To determine the exact nature of the injury, he had to undergo an MRI. The player paid for the examination costs from his own funds due to the lack of insurance.

Notably, the chief doctor of the Senegal national football team, Abdourahman Fédior, did not have the necessary training to work with footballers. By education, he is a gynecologist.

The Senegal national team reached the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, where they lost to the Belgium national team with a score of 2:3. However, the Senegalese lost three out of four tournament matches, advancing to the playoffs thanks to their sole victory over the Iraq national team — 5:0.

After the tournament concluded, the Football Federation decided to dismiss the national team’s head coach Papa Thiaw.
