Senegal: FONSTAB and BNDE inaugurate the first Senegalese industrial unit for hatching egg production

Senegal has reached a new milestone in reducing its dependence on poultry imports. FONSTAB and BNDE inaugurated, on August 7, 2026 in Taïba Ndiaye, in the department of Tivaouane, the industrial unit for hatching egg production of AVVITE-X SARL.

With a total investment of 969 million CFA francs, the project is financed 50% by FONSTAB, 40% by BNDE, and 10% by the promoter.

The stakes are high: Senegal still imports nearly 90% of its hatching egg needs, with an estimated bill of 20 billion CFA francs per year. The unit will start with 5,500 female and 850 male breeders and aims for a capacity of 3.15 million hatching eggs per year from the fourth year of operation.

Present at the inauguration, the Minister in charge of Livestock, Ousmane Diagne, called on Senegalese economic operators and investors to invest more in the various links of the poultry sector.

The first breeding chicks are expected on August 13, 2026, marking the effective start of operations. This unit is a pilot project aimed at demonstrating the economic viability of local hatching egg production and encouraging new private investments in the Senegalese poultry sector.
