Senator Calls for Senior Liberian Officials to Face Drug Probe

Senator Amara Konneh has warned against selective justice and the alleged protection of senior officials in the government’s anti-drug campaign. The Senator, who strongly supported President Joseph Boakai’s election, questioned what he described as a “double standard,” arguing that dismissing junior security officers “without due process or the opportunity to defend themselves” while senior commanders “remain untouched” suggests accountability is being selectively applied.

Referencing his backing of President Boakai, Konneh said his endorsement was built on expectations that the administration would confront illicit drugs and impunity. “Liberians are still waiting. We will not stay silent,” the Senator wrote on social media.

His comments come amid heightened public scrutiny over the government’s handling of recent large-scale cocaine seizures and growing questions regarding the potential involvement of security and government personnel in illicit drug trafficking.
