Sagamu-Benin Expressway: One Killed, Another Injured in Truc

One person was killed while another sustained injuries in a road crash involving two trucks on the Benin-Ore Expressway in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt from a traffic update on Monday by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, that the accident occurred around 12 pm at the J4 section of the expressway.

Akinbiyi noted that the crash involved a white Howo truck with number plate FSK 274 XA and a blue tractor without a registration number.

He stated that three male occupants were involved in the crash, with one person killed and another injured.

“Three male adults were involved in the accident, one male adult injured and one male adult died.

“According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred due to excessive speeding and loss of control on the part of the truck driver,” the report stated.

He noted that TRACE and police operatives arrived at the scene around 12:20 pm and commenced rescue and traffic management operations.

Akinbiyi said the victims were subsequently taken to Hope Hospital, J4, for medical attention, while the police and a towing vehicle were contacted to facilitate investigation and evacuation of the damaged vehicles.

He noted that traffic was affected during the evacuation exercise, but normalcy had since been restored.

Akinbiyi, however, expressed the condolences of the agency and the police to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid excessive speeding.

“While TRACE and the police commiserate with the family of the deceased, motorists are again warned against excessive speed in view of its attendant consequences,” he concluded.

PUNCH Metro reported on Monday that a pedestrian was struck dead by a truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.

Akinbiyi had stated that the accident occurred due to brake failure and excessive speeding.
