SAFA Confirm Venue for Mosimane’s First Baf…

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that Orlando Stadium will host Bafana Bafana’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Guinea on Saturday, 26 September 2026.

The fixture will mark Pitso Mosimane’s first match in charge of the national team since his appointment as Hugo Broos’ successor.

A New Chapter on Home Soil

Pitso Mosimane returns to the Bafana Bafana hot seat with his first competitive assignment coming on home soil, with SAFA calling on supporters to rally behind the team as a new era gets underway.

“We encourage families and fans to come in their numbers to support the team as we begin this new era under coach Pitso Mosimane,” SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said.

AFCON Qualifier Schedule Confirmed

Following the Guinea encounter, Bafana will travel to Egypt for their second Group D AFCON qualifier against Eritrea at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday, 30 September.

South Africa will remain in Cairo thereafter, with Mosimane’s side scheduled to face Egypt in an international friendly at Cairo International Stadium on 4 October — a fixture that will provide the coach with an opportunity to assess his squad against high-calibre opposition.

Ramoreboli Joins the Technical Team

The latest announcement comes as SAFA continues to put the finishing touches to Mosimane’s new-look technical team and preparations for the AFCON qualifying campaign. On Tuesday, the association confirmed that Morena Ramoreboli will join Mosimane’s technical team as his assistant coach, bringing his time in charge of the Botswana national team to an end.

Ramoreboli has extensive experience at both domestic and international level, having coached Jwaneng Galaxy and Botswana, while he also previously worked with Bafana Bafana and guided the national team to the 2021 COSAFA Cup title.

Countdown to the Guinea Clash

Mosimane announced his preliminary squad for the two AFCON qualifiers last week, with the final squad expected to be confirmed in the coming days as preparations for the Guinea clash intensify.

The countdown is now on to Mosimane’s first competitive match back in charge of Bafana, with Orlando Stadium set to provide the backdrop for the beginning of his second spell at the helm.
