The story

Teboho Mokoena warmed hearts off the pitch with a sweet birthday message dedicated to his son, just a day after producing another match-winning moment for the Brazilians.

“Mrembula” was at his influential best on Sunday, scoring a spectacular goal as Sundowns edged Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 at the King Zwelithini Stadium. The win marked another important moment in an impressive start to the 29-year-old’s season.

Away from the football pitch, however, Mokoena’s attention turned to celebrating his son.

The Sundowns midfielder shared a series of photographs of the two dressed in matching Spider-Man costumes, accompanying the wholesome snaps with a simple but affectionate message: “Happy birthday, my son. I love you, Spider-Man.”

The post quickly caught the attention of his teammates, with several Masandawana stars joining the celebrations in the comments.

Mokoena’s close friend and teammate Malibongwe Khoza described him as a “Present Dad and role model,” while Kutlwano Letlhaku and Zuko Mdunyelwa also shared their reactions.

Zuko added a playful message referencing Mokoena’s travelling football career and ambitions: “From Cape Town to Cairo. From Morocco to Madagascar. Stop it, Azania.”

The touching family moment comes during another productive period for Mokoena on the pitch. His stunning strike against Abafana Bes’thende was his third goal in his last five matches, taking his tally to 13 goals and 10 assists for the club.

He is also closing in on another personal landmark, sitting just three league appearances away from reaching 100 Betway Premiership outings for Sundowns.
