S. Sudan Embassy in Cairo apologizes over upside-down flag display

The Embassy of South Sudan in Cairo has issued an official apology following the upside-down display of the national flag during a high-level bilateral meeting in the Egyptian capital.

The diplomatic blunder occurred during discussions between South Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Kwal Newk Kowar Arub, and Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

In a formal statement, the embassy described the incident as an “unintentional oversight” that went unnoticed while discussions were underway.

“The Embassy states that the situation was not noticed at the time during the meeting, and expresses its deep regret for this unintentional mistake,” the statement read in part.

The mission reiterated that South Sudan’s national flag commands the highest level of respect, emphasizing that the error does not reflect any lack of reverence for the national symbol.

“The Embassy affirms that the national flag of the Republic of South Sudan enjoys the highest degree of respect and appreciation, and extends its sincere apologies for this mistake,” the statement added.

The embassy also commended the Egyptian government and public for their understanding, reaffirming the strong bilateral relations and historic friendship between Juba and Cairo.
