Pyramids’ League Form Contrasts Friendly Defeat
Mokwena’s side have been in red-hot form in the Egyptian Premier League, collecting the maximum nine points from their opening three matches while scoring six goals and conceding none.
However, that winning run did not carry over into their latest friendly outing, with the Sky Blues suffering a 3-2 defeat to Al Ahly Bank at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.
Friendly Defeat to Al Ahly Bank
Al Ahly Bank took the lead in the first half before Algerian striker Nadhir Benbouali equalised with a left-footed strike.
The visitors restored their advantage to head into the break 2-1 up, and added a third after the interval.
Nasser Maher then pulled one back from the penalty spot after Ahmed Abdelkader was brought down, but it was not enough to salvage a result.
According to Elwatan News, The match served as preparation for Mokwena’s substitutes ahead of their trip to Kenya for the CAF Champions League clash against Gor Mahia, with goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad starting behind a backline featuring Mohamed Hamdy, Eyad El Askalany, Osama Galal and Khaled Awad.
Mohamed Hamdi Returns After 239 Days
The friendly also marked a significant milestone for left-back Hamdy, who made his first appearance in 239 days.
