Rangers’ ninth title as proof of discipline and vision, says Afrinvest chief

Enugu Rangers International FC’s record ninth Nigeria Premier Football League title has drawn effusive praise from Dr Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director of Afrinvest West Africa, who described the championship as the product of discipline, resilience and a shared commitment to rebuilding one of Nigerian football’s most storied institutions.

Chioke made the remarks at a special dinner reception hosted by Afrinvest in Lagos to celebrate Rangers’ dominant 2025/26 campaign, in which the Flying Antelopes finished top of the NPFL table with 68 points from 38 matches, edging out Rivers United to claim the title for the second time in three seasons.

“To win the Nigerian league once is difficult. To win it twice in three seasons is a statement,” Chioke told guests at the event. “It speaks to discipline, hard work, resilience, consistency and belief.”

He described Rangers as something greater than a football club — calling the team “history”, “identity” and “the pride of millions of people across Nigeria and beyond.”

Chioke credited Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for recognising football’s potential as a platform for youth engagement, economic growth and regional branding when the sponsorship partnership with Afrinvest first took shape in 2023. Since then, the club has delivered two league titles in three seasons — an outcome Chioke called “vision meeting commitment.”

He also praised Rangers General Manager Amobi Ezeaku for introducing the professionalism and modern management structures that underpinned the club’s resurgence, before reserving his warmest words for Head Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, the architect of back-to-back title challenges.

“Football is ultimately won on the training ground — in preparation, in tactics, in man-management and in the ability to inspire players to believe in themselves under pressure,” Chioke said. “To deliver two league titles in three seasons is a tremendous accomplishment and Nigerian football must acknowledge the quality of work he has done with this team.”

The Afrinvest chief also saluted the players for their unseen sacrifices throughout the campaign, noting that championships are forged through moments of pain, discipline and mental strength long before they are won on match days. Rangers’ supporters, he added, were equally deserving of recognition for standing firmly behind the club through both triumphs and setbacks.

Beyond the celebrations, Chioke used the occasion to issue a broader challenge to Nigerian football stakeholders, arguing that Rangers’ success should serve as a catalyst for systemic change across the domestic game.

“Nigerian football must rise again. Our clubs must become stronger institutions. Our league must become more commercially viable,” he said, calling for greater global investment and improved stadium experiences to match the ambitions of clubs like Rangers.

He also directed a message at the next generation of players, urging them to understand that talent without character and consistency rarely endures at the highest level.

For Chioke and Afrinvest, Rangers’ ninth title vindicates the belief that purposeful investment in Nigerian football can yield tangible, lasting results — and signals that the Flying Antelopes are ready, once again, to carry that ambition onto the continental stage.
