Mamelodi Sundowns players celebrate CAF Champions League semi-final second leg victory over Esperance
Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tshepo Ramokala believes the Brazilians have both the quality and the mindset to finally get their hands on the CAF Champions League title – provided they apply the lessons of last season’s heartbreak, when they face AS FAR in the final.
Sundowns booked their place in the final for the second successive campaign after a disciplined 1-0 win over Espérance Sportive de Tunis in Tshwane sealed a 2-0 aggregate victory last weekend. This further underlined their growing consistency on the continent.

The memory of last year’s disappointment still lingers, however, after Pyramids FC claimed their maiden title with a 3-2 aggregate triumph over Sundowns in Cairo.
Speaking exclusively to the Siya crew, Ramokala insisted that this time, Sundowns must approach the final with a winning mentality.
“Sundowns are going to go to the final to win it. They have to win it, this time around. But, you know, the final is a tricky game, and anyone can win it. But they need to be mentally strong so that they can win it. Like I am saying, the final, anyone can win it – it’s anybody’s game,” he said.
“The only thing that can help them to win it is to stay focused. I mean, they learned from the Pyramids game, I think they have got experience from Pyramids, they have to apply that when they play the final,” he added.
Ramokala also reserved praise for head coach Miguel Cardoso, highlighting the impact the Portuguese tactician has made since taking charge.

“He has shown that he is a good coach, an experienced coach. He has brought something different to this Sundowns team, for sure, and for me, they are going far with him. I think he wants it, and he is capable of winning it. He is a very strong-minded coach, and he knows what he wants, and I am happy for him,” concluded Ramokala.
With momentum building and valuable experience gained from last season’s near miss, Sundowns will head into the final believing they have what it takes to go one step further this time around.
