Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, invited Saddam Haftar to visit Qatar to continue consultations and coordination between the two sides.
The invitation came during a meeting between the two on Thursday at the headquarters of Haftar’s forces in Benghazi.
According to the media office of Haftar’s forces, Saddam Haftar praised the depth of relations between Libya and Qatar and Qatar’s efforts to support Libya’s stability and unity.
The meeting also addressed the latest local and regional political developments, as well as ways to develop bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in various fields in line with the two countries’ shared interests, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Qatar News Agency (QNA) said the meeting discussed regional developments and a number of issues of mutual interest.
Al-Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Libya’s unity and stability and its commitment to supporting the political process and peaceful solutions that meet the aspirations of the Libyan people and safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
He stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and supporting national reconciliation efforts to promote consensus among Libyans and create conditions conducive to stability and unity.
The Qatari official also affirmed his country’s continued engagement with various Libyan parties and leaders in support of UN efforts to reach a comprehensive and lasting political settlement.
Earlier, Al-Khulaifi met with Belkacem Haftar, the director general of the so-called the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund. The talks focused on the participation of Qatari institutions and companies in development projects being implemented by the fund.
Al-Khulaifi arrived in Benghazi from the capital Tripoli, where he held a visit on Wednesday.
