Prominent athletes leave St Jago girls team for various schools | Sports

Indications are that close to a dozen athletes could end up being transferred from St Jago High School girls’ track and field team for the new school year which got underway on Monday.

The Gleaner sports has been reliably informed that among the notable names transferred so far are sprinter Adora Campbell and intermediate hurdler Alyssa Carty, who have both switched to the Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha.

Campbell was 4th in the Class 2 100m final at this year’s ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, while Carty finished 7th in the 400 metre hurdles Open final before going on to land the Carifta Under-17 crown in Grenada.

Campbell and Carty were also part of St Jago’s Class 2 sprint relay team which copped gold at this year’s boys and girls championships in a record 44.81 seconds.

Meanwhile, class one 800m and 1500m runner Kededra Coombs, as well as Class 1 1500m and 3000m Open competitor Tashalee Palmer have moved on to Edwin Allen High, while long jumper Jenella Canns is among two of the St Jago girls who have transferred to St Elizabeth Technical.

A Gleaner exclusive on Wednesday revealed that four of the most promising athletes on the St Jago High boys’ team have transferred to Jamaica College for the new school year.
