President Ruto hails Malkia Strikers after win over Cameroon to reach African Nations final

President William Ruto has hailed the Malkia Strikers after the team delivered an impressive performance to defeat Cameroon 3‑0 and secure a place in the final of the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship.

The defending African champions produced a commanding display against their arch‑rivals at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Thursday to advance to the continental final.

Ruto described the victory as a proud moment for the country, praising the team for maintaining the winning spirit that has come to define the Malkia Strikers.

“We are proud of the outstanding performance of our Malkia Strikers at the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship,” he said. “The commanding 3‑0 victory over Cameroon, which secured a place in the final, was a proud moment for our country.”

The President said the Malkia Strikers had once again demonstrated why they are the defending African champions as they take the final step towards retaining their continental title.

“As the defending African champions, you have once again shown the winning spirit that has come to define Malkia Strikers,” Ruto added.

He assured the team that the country was behind them as they prepare for the final.

“As you take this final step, know that the nation stands firmly behind you,” he said.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Mvurya also congratulated the team after their victory, praising their commanding performance against Cameroon.

“In a commanding display, our queens, the Malkia Strikers, swept aside Cameroon 3–0 (25–19, 25–20, 25–20) to storm into the FINAL!” Mvurya said.

He praised the Kenyan fans who filled the Kasarani arena, describing the crowd as the team’s “7th player” for roaring the Malkia Strikers to victory.

The Malkia Strikers will face Egypt in the final as they seek to defend their African title.
