Prenelan Subrayen praises Dewald Brevis’s 75 not out vs Zimbabwe

South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen praised Dewald Brevis for his outstanding batting performance in South Africa’s victory over Zimbabwe in the T20I Tri-Series.

Following their opening loss to Namibia, South Africa secured a seven-wicket win against Zimbabwe on August 29. Brevis played a pivotal role by scoring an unbeaten 75 runs off 32 balls, which included seven fours and six sixes, leading the team to victory within 13.4 overs.

Subrayen noted that Brevis had taken the disappointment from narrowly missing a win against Namibia into the match against Zimbabwe and ensured South Africa finished the job. “I think Dewald’s innings yesterday (against Namibia) and today (against Zimbabwe), he really showed frustration yesterday when he couldn’t take us home. That’s something he reflected on and he came today and saw it through for us. For us, sitting in the change room, it’s uplifting watching him bat. Especially when you see the third umpire running in the new ball every second over. Watching him bat is quite a privilege,” said Subrayen, according to the ICC website.

Zimbabwe had set a target of 145 after scoring 144 for eight wickets. Brian Bennett contributed 34 runs and Ben Curran scored 24, with Tadiwanashe Marumani adding 30 off 13 balls to help set a competitive total.

Zimbabwean batter Marumani acknowledged Brevis’s impact, stating, “The intent was there from ball one. He looked to score, which released the pressure from their changing room, and it made a huge difference, as his performance reduced the asking rate to less than a run a ball.”

For South Africa, Duan Jansen took three wickets, while Prenelan Subrayen claimed two for 27 runs.
