Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly

CAIRO – 21 August 2026: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that the massive Julius Nyerere Dam project refutes claims that Egypt opposes development across Nile Basin countries.

In statements to Extra News channel, the Prime Minister emphasized that Egypt remains consistently committed to supporting development in the region, provided it does not harm the vital interests of Egypt or Sudan. He stressed that the issue of Nile water rights remains a matter of existential importance for Egypt.

Madbouly highlighted the dam in Tanzania as a successful model of bilateral cooperation. He attributed the project’s success to continuous oversight by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and a shared commitment from the leadership of both nations to overcome implementation challenges.

Speaking on behalf of President El-Sisi during the dam’s inauguration and operation, Madbouly described the milestone as a significant moment reflecting the depth of Egyptian-Tanzanian relations. He noted that the project received direct, ongoing attention from President El-Sisi, who reviewed monthly progress reports throughout its development.

The Prime Minister concluded that the successful completion of the Julius Nyerere Dam demonstrates the strong capacity for Egyptian-Tanzanian joint ventures and reinforces both nations’ commitment to expanding their strategic partnership across various sectors.
