Morocco celebrates youth day alongside King Mohammed VI’s 63rd Birthday

RABAT — Marking the 63rd birthday of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI on Friday, the North African kingdom observed Youth Day, highlighting the Kingdom’s ongoing strategic initiatives to foster the socio-economic integration and civic empowerment of younger generations.

With young people making up nearly one-third of the country’s population, youth development remains a central pillar of the Sovereign’s long-term vision for sustainable growth, social cohesion, and institutional modernization.

Human Development and Local Infrastructure

A key priority of this national approach involves creating accessible community facilities designed to provide professional training, social support, and personal development opportunities across the Kingdom.

Over recent years, public investments have focused on:

  • Vocational and Skill-Building Centers: Establishing facilities dedicated to technical training, job placement, and cognitive skills development aligned with modern economic demands.
  • Socio-Sports and Digital Hubs: Expanding recreational facilities, athletic complexes, and digital technology centers that foster connectivity, digital literacy, and community life.
  • Health and Social Welfare Initiatives: Setting up specialized support units to combat addictive behaviours and promote mental and physical well-being.
  • Entrepreneurship and Financing Support: Expanding access to funding and business incubation programs for young entrepreneurs launching income-generating projects.

Political Modernization and Civic Engagement

Beyond economic initiatives, institutional reforms have targeted greater civic and political participation among younger citizens.

A major step in this direction occurred during the Council of Ministers meeting on October 19, 2025, which introduced key updates to the Kingdom’s political framework:

  • Incentivizing Candidacies for Under-35s: The updated organic law governing the House of Representatives streamlined candidacy procedures for young candidates and instituted public financial backing covering 75% of their campaign costs.
  • Political Party Governance: Accompanying legislation updated the legal framework for political parties, introducing standards to boost the representation of youth and women in party creation, reinforce transparency, and modernize financial administration.

Athletic Excellence and International Representation

Royal backing has also centered heavily on the development of sports infrastructure and the promotion of emerging athletic talent. By supporting training academies, local sports programs, and elite competitors across international competitions, the initiative aims to channel youth potential into national achievement and international representation.

By integrating educational advancement, economic opportunities, political inclusion, and athletic development, Morocco continues to position its youth as the driving force behind the Kingdom’s social resilience and regional leadership.
