PAYOWI Marks Menstrual Hygiene Day in Todee

ZINGBOR TOWN, TODEE DISTRICT – Residents of Zingbor Town marked World Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28 with a spirited community gathering led by the Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI), in collaboration with Medica Liberia, Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa, and Frontline Women.

The one-day event, themed “From Adolescence to Menopause: Advancing Menstrual Health and Hygiene for All Women and Girls,” brought together 40 women and girls for a day of learning and discussion. Participants engaged in sessions focusing on menstrual health management, cycle tracking, water and sanitation, and the vital role of hygiene in women’s health and wellbeing.

The event featured open forums and interactive lessons, providing a platform for women and girls to voice concerns, share personal stories, and confront persistent taboos surrounding menstruation. PAYOWI representatives underscored the right of every woman and girl to reliable menstrual health information and dignified, safe hygiene, regardless of age, status, or community.

Speakers called for greater community action to address the pressing challenges confronting rural women and girls, such as limited access to sanitary supplies, insufficient sanitation infrastructure, and widespread lack of menstrual health awareness.

PAYOWI reaffirmed its commitment to championing the rights, health, and empowerment of women and girls throughout Liberia, promising continued advocacy and targeted community outreach.
