Oblique Seville and Nickeisha Pryce among Jamiacan podium finishers on day 2 at Ultimate Champs – IRIE FM

Jamaica’s medal trophies have jumped to three, on the second day of action,  at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship which ended earlier today in  Budapest, Hungary.

This after the world champion Oblique Seville grabbed second place in the men’s 100 meters final and national record holder Nickeisha Pryce finished third in the women’s 400 metres final. 

Seville, who  won   his semi-final earlier in 9.90 seconds, ran the identical time to take second behind the American Kenneth Bednarek who ran  a  season’s   best 9.85 seconds.

On the women’s side there was no such luck for the Jamaican ladies, as Johneile Smith was fourth in 10.94 seconds, the same time credited to compatriot Tina Clayton who was fifth, while the other Jamaican Lavanya Williams  was 7th in 11.07 seconds. 

The event was won by the World Champion Mellissa Jefferson – Wooden of the USA, a world leading 10.62 seconds. 

Meanwhile, Pryce took third spot in the women’s one lap event and claimed 40  thousand US dollars after crossing the line in 49.56 seconds, as the event was won by the reigning World and Olympic champion Marieldy Paulino of the Dominican Republic in 49.07 seconds. 

In the field Tajay Gayle missed a spot on the podium as he finished fifth   after cutting the sand at 7.90 meters, the event won by the Greek star Miltiadis Tengolou with a leap measuring 8.35 metres.

In the meantime, Jamaica will have two representatives in the women’s 400 meters hurdles final on Sunday, this after the 2019  world championship  bronze  medallist  Rushelle Clayton grabbed fourth spot in semi-final one clocking 53.84 seconds, while Sanique Walker made progress from semi-final two after crossing the line at 53.77 seconds. 

Earlier national record holder Navasky Anderson missed a spot in the final of the men’s 800 meters set for tomorrow, after he finished 5th in his semi-final this morning in 1 minute 44.83 seconds. 

The three day Ultimate Championship ends tomorrow.
