Nigeria tried to respond immediately. Just one minute later, Rasheedat Ajibade sent a dangerous cross into the penalty box, but Gift Monday could not strike the ball cleanly. In the final minutes, Nigeria pushed everyone forward to score. Substitute Esther Okoronkwo used her speed to beat a defender, but her left-footed shot went just wide of the post.

Cameroon defended bravely until the final whistle. By defeating the reigning champions, the Indomitable Lionesses secured a famous victory and ensured that a new country will take home the African trophy this year.
