NPFL: Theophilus Afelokhai begins coaching journey at Ranchers Bees

Former Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai has begun his journey as a coach with NPFL side Ranchers Bees, www.aclsports.com reports.

Afelokhai, who was a regular face in the NPFL in the past 15 years, featured for the likes of Kano Pillars, and Rivers United in the elite division.

“Now, I’m a goalkeeper coach at Ranchers Bees,” the 38-year-old told www.aclsports.com in an interview.

On the decision to become a coach, Afelokhai remembered when veteran tactician Kadiri Ikhana predicted he was going to be one during his playing days many years ago.

“Just like a miracle as I never thought I would become a coach one day. When I was playing under coach Kadiri Ikhana, he predicted I was going to be a coach, and I told him it’s not possible but here I am today,” Afelokhai stated.

“While at Rivers United, I sustained an injury that kept me out for about two to three years. I tried recovering to play even when I had offers but I want to put 100%. So, I turned them down,” Afelokhai explained his decision to retire from playing football.

Afelokhai, who won six NPFL titles (four at Kano Pillars, one each at Enyimba and Rivers United) during his playing days, hopes to bring his wealth of experience to the Bees who are aiming for a good finish on their return to the NPFL.

“I’m happy that with my experience as one of the best goalkeepers and players in the league in my playing days, I will do my best to help Ranchers Bees. I will try to produce fine goalkeepers for the team and back the team up to achieve our dreams,” Afelokhai concluded.
