NCDC Head Denies Expired Drug Allegations in Libya

Haidar Al-Sayeh, Head of Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and National Cancer Control Authority, declared yestetday that if it is proven that he had procured expired or smuggled medication into Libya, he demanded to be executed by hanging in Tripoli’s Martyrs’ Square.

Al-Sayeh denied procuring smuggled or expired medicines or vaccines, describing the accusations as a “farce.”

He said the Authority does not import any medication without first completing all registration and regulatory approval processes.

He insisted that the medications found at the Jufra center were not supplied by the Authority – they were already present before the center was officially accredited, he said.

Al-Sayeh assured that the vaccines used by the Libyan state come from top global manufacturers and are certified by the World Health Organization.

He said the Libyan state had halted the procurement of oncology drugs through local companies and adopted a policy of direct importation from global manufacturers.

Al-Sayeh added that Libya had stopped importing oncology drugs from Iraq and switched to sourcing directly from parent companies in Europe and the United States.

Regarding the recent media Campaign against him, he said “What we are facing is a war of interests and a blackmail campaign orchestrated by companies via social media pages.

I am ready to face an investigation by any body; if the accusations are proven true, I demand the severest penalty.”

Al-Sayeh said that the Head of Government has always emphasized that pharmaceutical quality is a red line and that any official responsible for a violation will be held accountable.
