Najeeriii points to growth on sophomore album SISU

Dancehall artiste Najeeriii has ushered in a new phase of his career with the release of his sophomore album SISU, a project he describes as a more mature and refined representation of his sound.

Released on Friday, September 4, via 21st Hapilos Digital Distribution, the distribution arm of Hapilos Music Group, the 11-track set follows his 2025 debut album, Book of Bob.

For the Portmore-raised entertainer, whose given name is Najeeri Smart,
SISU is more than an album title. The word is derived from a Finnish concept associated with extraordinary determination and inner strength, but Najeeriii has also given it his own interpretation: “Success Is Simply Unavoidable.”

“Sisu by itself is a Finnish term that means profound inner strength and a high level of determination, terms which define who Najeeriii is. So, I abbreviated it, and now it’s my album title,” he said in a statement to the Jamaica Observer.

Najeeriii said the response to Book of Bob helped shape the direction of the new project, particularly as he sought to better understand what listeners wanted from him.

“The fans inspired it. The recent success of my previous project taught me what my people really want from me; just a more mature version of what I’ve been doing. This is what this project is,” he said.

Describing the sound of SISU as “refined” and largely “chill, cool, highway music”, the artiste explores attraction, sexuality, fashion, street culture, confidence and lifestyle, while also making room for moments of reflection and personal growth.

One such moment comes on opening track Jesus Yute, which, despite its focus on style and confidence, holds deeper significance for Najeeriii.

“Jesus Yute has a different meaning to me. It’s just a small reflection on how far I’ve come and how blessed I am to be here,” he shared.

The album also features: 24kt, Clap, Mickey Mouse, Drunk, Jesus Piece, S550, Aladdin’s Carpet, Oouuhand Your Touch. Clap draws creatively from Chris Brown’s Gimme That.

The lone collaboration is Tessanne Chin, featuring fellow artiste Ffawty. Najeeriii said the pairing came naturally, as Ffawty’s “sound, mood and energy” complemented the record.

While collaborations are kept to a minimum, several producers contributed to SISU, including Mahxri, KP, Woody, Graphix, DJ Nxldo, and Prod. Mxnii. Najeeriii also stepped behind the boards, producing the opening track and working alongside KP on track 10, Oouuh.

“Even with this many producers, it was still a team effort and done in one accord,” he said.

Najeeriii sees the album as part of a broader transformation in his career, extending beyond his musical output to how he presents and positions himself as an artiste.

“This project is more of a showcase of the new sound; the dawn of my branding era. I’ve evolved in all aspects of my career, creativity, performance, marketing, business relationships. You’ll hear it in the music, trust,” he continued.

Najeeriii emerged prominently on the dancehall scene in 2023 with Paddle Boat and has since built a catalogue that includes songs such asPhat Phat, Panton, 1Rifle, Bali, and
Cloud Nine.

Now working with Hapilos Music Group, he hopes SISU will further expand his reach while providing music listeners can connect with regardless of where they are or what they are experiencing.

“Honestly, I just want people to be able to put my music on after a stressful day or even on a happy one, here or internationally This project captures most, if not all emotions, so there’s a song for everyone from anywhere in the world you are,” Najeeriii added.
