Morocco extends its dominance in the UK raspberry market • EastFruit

Morocco has reinforced its leadership in the United Kingdom’s fresh raspberry trade, achieving growth for the fifth consecutive marketing year, according to EastFruit. Between July 2025 and June 2026, the UK imported 18,400 tons of Moroccan raspberries valued at more than £132.7 million. Although the increase over MY 2024/25 was modest at 1.6 percent, it set a new record for both countries and is particularly significant given that overall UK raspberry imports declined during the same period.

This performance allowed Morocco to sustain its upward trajectory, with shipments now 2.6 times higher than in MY 2020/21. Over five years, the country has transformed from a secondary supplier into the undisputed leader of the UK raspberry market.

Berries are the most dynamic fruit category in the UK, with sales growing at an average of 4.3 percent annually and purchased by more than 85 percent of consumers, according to CBI. In early 2025, the total value of the UK berry market surpassed £2 billion for the first time. British consumers expect raspberries to be available yearround, not just in summer. Domestic production typically runs from June to November, while imports cover the rest of the calendar.

Morocco and Spain are the two principal suppliers, with additional volumes arriving from Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, and South Africa. Since MY 2022/23, Morocco has held the numberone position, and since MY 2024/25 it has supplied more than half of all raspberries consumed in the UK. In MY 2025/26, Moroccos share of imports reached 62.9 percent, up from just 21.3 percent in MY 2020/21.

The latest results confirm that Morocco’s success is not a oneoff but the outcome of wellplanned logistics, favorable climatic conditions, and the ability to meet demand precisely when European producers scale back volumes. With the UK berry market continuing to expand and consumers accustomed to yearround availability, Morocco is well positioned to shape future trends in this segment.

This achievement complements Morocco’s broader advance in the UK fruit market, where it is also challenging Spain’s dominance in mandarins and expanding its role in other categories.
