South Sudan’s Bright Stars Sweep Tunisia Window to Edge Closer to 2027 FIBA World Cup

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee, will hold a celebration tomorrow to honour the national basketball team, Bright Stars, for their recent successful performances in Tunisia.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, the event is aimed at recognizing the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches and supporters who contributed to the team’s achievement.

The occasion will also provide an opportunity for the Ministry of Youth and Sports to celebrate the growing passion for basketball in the country.

Following the team’s impressive performances against Nigeria, Guinea and the host nation Tunisia, South Sudanese citizens have been invited to celebrate the success.

The celebration will be held at Nimira Talata Basketball Stadium in Juba on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, beginning at 3:00 PM.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has invited government officials, supporters, media and members of the public to come together and celebrate the achievement.

The Bright Stars defeated Guinea, Nigeria and Tunisia to complete three successive wins at the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Tunisia last week.

The Bright Stars are the number one African basketball team and number 24th in the global ranking.
