Morocco ends summer with dams 67.7% full

Morocco ended August with 11.52 billion cubic meters of water stored in its dams, nearly twice the level recorded a year earlier, according to government data.

The national filling rate reached 67.67% on August 30, up from 33.91% on the same date in 2025, the Equipment and Water Ministry’s Maadialna platform showed.

The improvement provides a larger reserve for drinking water and irrigation before the next hydrological year. Storage has nevertheless declined during the summer because of consumption, irrigation and evaporation, from about 76% in mid-May.

Regional disparities remain substantial. The Sebou basin held 4.33 billion cubic meters and was 80.63% full. Al Wahda, Morocco’s largest dam, contained 2.91 billion cubic meters at an 84.51% filling rate.

Storage in the Oum Er-Rbia basin reached 2.98 billion cubic meters, or 59.69% of capacity, compared with 10.18% a year earlier. Bin El Ouidane was 83.01% full, while Al Massira remained at 40.38%.

Southern and southeastern basins continued to record the lowest levels. Drâa-Oued Noun stood at 32.46%, while Guir-Ziz-Rheris was 39.72% full.
