Morocco deports former Uyghur Congress president

Morocco has deported Uyghur activist and former World Uyghur Congress (WUC) president Dolkun Isa after he arrived in Casablanca on July 20 to attend the International Religious Freedom Summit, the organisation said on Monday, condemning the move.

The WUC said Isa was stopped by immigration officials, held for around 15 hours, and deported to Germany before he could participate in the conference. According to the organisation, Moroccan authorities handed him a notice from the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of National Security informing him that he was prohibited from entering the country.

The WUC described the deportation as part of what it called a broader pattern of «transnational repression» targeting Uyghur activists. It urged Moroccan authorities to explain the reasons behind the decision, clarify whether it was influenced by China, and remove what it described as politically motivated records. The organisation also called on Germany, the European Union, the United Nations, and international human rights organisations to raise the issue with Morocco.
