Morocco denies DGSN and DGST data breach after Jabaroot leaks

Three days after the Algerian-associated hacker group «Jabaroot» claimed to have leaked data on thousands of Moroccan security personnel, the Directorate General of National Security and the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance emphatically refuted any breach of their IT systems, as stated on Thursday.

On August 24, the group released alleged data of over 70,000 individuals linked to these security services, claiming it resulted from a direct hack. The files allegedly included personal details such as names, birthdates, national IDs, payroll numbers, and hiring dates.

Ongoing Investigations

In response, the joint command insisted that the information was «not obtained from a breach of our security systems», highlighting their adherence to stringent cybersecurity measures.

They clarified that the data originated from outdated databases managed by insurance and social services, indicating that having security personnel’s names there does not prove a direct hack of the security institutions’ systems.

Furthermore, they emphasized that their data systems «are not connected to open internet networks», thus dismissing the group’s claims that the information was extracted directly from their databases.

The statement also warned against the repeated release of fake images, falsely attributed to employees in various security departments, and against circulating altered documents misleadingly presented as official records.

It noted that the fabricated nature of some materials was clear due to non-existent uniforms and ranks, along with visual and linguistic errors deemed «blatant».

The Directorate General for National Security and Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance reiterated their commitment to dispel «false reports» about any data breach.

Additionally, they affirmed that investigations will proceed under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, aiming to identify and prosecute those responsible for creating and spreading this false information.

«Le Monde»: Ex-Agents Allegedly Behind Leaks

In a different narrative, French newspaper «Le Monde» reported that the leak was orchestrated by five former members of the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance. The group, consisting of four officers and a police superintendent, reportedly sought refuge in Europe and demand reforms at the helm of Morocco’s security bodies.

According to «Le Monde», they claim to have witnessed «abusive use of personal data» during surveillance and investigative operations.

This controversy marks another instance where «Jabaroot» has claimed responsibility for leaking data from Moroccan entities. Since its emergence in April 2025, the group has been linked with numerous leaks involving data related to public bodies and prominent figures, such as the National Social Security Fund, the notaries’ platform, and the Ministry of Justice, among others.
