Turkish intelligence chief meets heads of two Libyan bodies

Head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization Ibrahim Kalin met in Ankara on September 11 with Speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives Aguila Saleh and President of Libya’s High Council of State Mohammed Takala. Anadolu Agency reported, citing security sources.

Libya’s political unity

During the talks, the parties discussed the situation in Libya and the region, steps to further develop cooperation between Libya and Türkiye, as well as efforts to achieve the country’s political and military unity and preserve stability.

The sides also considered ways to achieve lasting progress on issues that had remained unresolved for a long time and to form a broad consensus among all parties.

Elections and state institutions

The participants emphasized the leading role of the High Council of State and the House of Representatives in ensuring stability and advancing the political process. They agreed on the goals of political unity and the unification of state institutions.

Among the issues long discussed in Libya are the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections, the settlement of disputes over executive power, and full integration in the military and political spheres. The agency notes that this meeting was the first time the heads of the two Libyan institutions gathered in Türkiye to discuss these issues. Concrete progress in advancing processes that had been deadlocked was also reported.
