Morocco Braces for Heat Wave, Thunderstorms Across Several Provinces

A heat wave and thunderstorms accompanied by hail and gusty winds are expected from Sunday through Tuesday in several provinces across the Kingdom, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said.

A heat wave, with temperatures ranging from 42°C to 46°C, is forecast from Sunday through Tuesday in the provinces of Assa-Zag, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Es-Semara and Zagora, the DGM said in an orange-level weather alert.

Temperatures ranging from 38°C to 42°C are also expected on Sunday and Monday in the provinces of Tan-Tan, Skhirate-Temara, Khemisset, Rehamna, Ouezzane, Larache, Taounate, El Kelâa des Sraghna, Laayoune, Guelmim, Settat, Khouribga, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Kenitra, Taroudant, Fquih Ben Salah, Béni Mellal and Salé, the same source added.

In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by hail and gusty winds, with rainfall totals of 25 to 35 mm, are expected from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday in the provinces of Azilal, Boulemane, Rehamna, Marrakech, El Kelâa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, Settat, Khouribga, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Figuig, Midelt, Khénifra, Ifrane, Fquih Ben Salah and Béni Mellal.
