Morocco announces candidacy deadlines for 2026 legislative elections

Morocco’s Interior Ministry on Saturday announced the procedures and deadlines for submitting candidacies for the Sept. 23, 2026, legislative elections.

The filing period will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, and close at noon Wednesday, Sept. 9, the ministry said in a statement.

Candidates will be required to submit their candidacy declarations in two stages. The first stage involves completing and submitting the declaration through an electronic platform at www.elections.ma.

The platform will open at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 through the section titled “Candidacy Declaration” and will close at noon Sept. 8, according to the ministry.

After completing the online procedure, representatives of candidate lists must submit the original candidacy file and required supporting documents in person to the authority responsible for receiving candidacy declarations in the relevant prefecture or province, wilaya or electoral constituency.

The ministry said the online submission is a mandatory step and that the candidacy process will only be considered complete once the original file and accompanying documents have been submitted.

Specially equipped rooms will be made available at the headquarters of the relevant wilayas, provinces and prefectures and districts to assist candidate-list representatives with the electronic filing process. The facilities will be available during official working hours throughout the filing period, including Saturday and Sunday.

Representatives must appear before the relevant authority on the date and at the time assigned to them, carrying the temporary receipt issued through the electronic platform, along with the original candidacy declaration and required documents.

The electoral campaign will begin at midnight Sept. 10 and end at midnight Sept. 22, according to the ministry.

Morocco will hold the legislative elections on Sept. 23 to elect members of the House of Representatives.
