Mokwena: ‘We Lost Mayele But…’

Pyramids FC head coach Rulani Mokwena has confirmed that the club is actively pursuing attacking reinforcements following the departure of Fiston Mayele.

Mokwena has been working with his team on a pre-season camp in Turkiye, playing two games so far in a four-game tour before the Egyptian Premier League season starts in late August.

For the 39-year-old, his priority remains to get to grips with his new squad, while the club remains in search of new signings to add to the team.

The South African coach revealed that the club’s management is on the same page regarding transfer targets, with a particular focus on strengthening the forward line ahead of the new season, according to Yallakora.

“Pyramids’ deals? Fortunately, the club is in agreement with us, and we are on the same page,” he stated.

“Our transfer targets are very clear. It is true that the striker, Fiston Mayele, has left, but we have a strong team. We need to improve in certain positions, especially in the forward line with the striker position, but the club is in agreement with us, we think the same way, and we are discussing a fair number of strikers,” he added.

Mokwena’s Recruitment Strategy

Mokwena stressed the importance of identifying players suited to the demands of both the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.

“We are trying to look at what suits us, because it is important to know how we want to play, how we want to develop the team, while being aware of the type of players who succeed in the Egyptian League, the African Champions League, and who succeed in Pyramids,” he continued.

“We also have a very good recruitment manager, and the management is working around the clock to try and get us the best options to strengthen and improve the squad,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach concluded.
