Rulani Mokwena revealed that he has regrets about his Wydad AC tenure during his official unveiling as Pyramids FC head coach.

The Sky Blues held a press conference to officially unveil the 39-year-old to the local media ahead of the start of the 2026/27 Egyptian Premier League season.
Mokwena has been in charge of the club since July 2026 after leaving Libyan side Al-Ittihad and oversaw the Egyptian side’s pre-season trip to Turkiye.
Regrets Over Wydad Exit
According to Shorouk News, the South African admitted that he has regrets over the way his tenure at Wydad AC ended.
Mokwena left the club shortly before the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, and missed the opportunity to lead the Red Castle at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
“I have one regret in my life, which is that I left Wydad Casablanca at the end of the season, but despite that, my relationship with the Moroccan players is now good and strong,” Mokwena stated.
Nonetheless, Mokwena is excited to work with his new squad and became acquainted with the team during pre-season, with his goal to take the team to the next level.
Mokwena’s Pyramids Ambitions
As revealed by El Watan News, Mokwena stated he wants to ensure Pyramids are winning trophies and competing at the highest level.
“My ambition is to continue Pyramids’ presence on the podium in the coming period, and it is a great challenge, but we are ready for it,” Mokwena said.
He also praised the work done by his predecessor, Krunoslav Jurcic, for instilling a winning mentality within the club.
“Krunslav Jurcic succeeded in changing the mentality of Pyramids players, and now they have to adapt to our style and achieve what we want from them in the coming period,” he added.

“Pyramids is a professional club, so I am excited about this experience and fully prepared for it, as I watched all of the team’s matches last season to get to know everything about the team and the players,” he concluded.
