The story

Rulani Mokwena has once again shown his commitment to developing the next generation, with the South African coach and his Pyramids FC staff surprising the Egyptian club’s academy players with an impromptu training session.

Pyramids shared footage on Instagram showing their South African mentor stepping away from first-team duties to interact with and coach one of the club’s youth teams, creating a memorable experience for the children at the Sky Blues.

The session offered Mokwena and his coaching staff an opportunity to share their knowledge, encouragement and positive energy with some of the club’s potential future stars — a moment the youngsters are unlikely to forget anytime soon.

It also comes during an impressive start to Mokwena’s tenure in Egypt. The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has remained unbeaten across his first six matches in charge, while Pyramids have won all four of their Egyptian Premier League fixtures so far.

His continental campaign has also got off to a positive start, with Pyramids progressing through the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after seeing off Kenya’s Gor Mahia.

Mokwena’s assured but affectionate reaction to Sunday’s second-leg triumph has also attracted plenty of attention online. The coach was seen warmly embracing and congratulating his players following their emphatic 5-1 victory, which secured a 7-1 aggregate triumph.
