MONROVIA, June 9, 2026 – The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) has secured a US$60 million investment agreement with JR Farms Group Inc., an African agribusiness firm specializing in coffee production, processing, and international trade, to revitalize Liberia’s coffee industry and expand opportunities for thousands of farmers nationwide.

The 20-year partnership agreement was signed on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Ministry of Agriculture in Monrovia by Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah and JR Farms Group Chief Executive Officer Olawale Rotimi Oyeyemi, in the presence of other officials.

The agreement is expected to benefit more than 200,000 farmers, develop over 250,000 hectares of coffee plantations, plant 200 million coffee trees, create more than 300,000 direct and indirect jobs across the coffee value chain, and strengthen the country’s agricultural export sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah said the agreement would empower farmers, create employment opportunities for young people, and support the development of large-scale coffee farms to improve livelihoods in rural communities.

According to the Minister, the partnership is intended to revitalize “Liberia’s world-renowned Liberica coffee sector”, expand opportunities for farmers nationwide, and contribute to rural economic growth through increased agricultural exports.

Dr. Nuetah further noted that the partnership will support the coffee industry through farmer training, the provision of improved seedlings, the establishment of processing facilities, expanded market access, and value addition initiatives, with a strong focus on youth engagement and rural transformation.

He further emphasized that Coffee Liberica, Liberia’s flagship product under the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative, is poised for a major comeback as Liberia works to position its unique coffee on the global market.

For his part, JR Farms Group Chief Executive Officer Olawale Rotimi Oyeyemi described the agreement as the beginning of a transformative journey for Liberia’s coffee sector.

“The signing today for us is significant, but it’s also a call to run. We consider this a business marathon. For us, the race today with the signing is just ‘on your mark,’ and then we go. The journey begins,” Oyeyemi said.

He added that the partnership was also a product of the Government of Liberia’s Economic Diplomacy initiative, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs playing a key role in facilitating engagements that paved the way for the agreement.

JR Farms Group is an African agribusiness company with extensive experience in coffee production, processing, and international trade.

Officials described the agreement as a major investment in farmers, jobs, exports, and Liberia’s agricultural future.
