Martin and Douglas take U20 100m crowns at national championships

Nathaniel Martin of Jamaica College and Shanoya Douglas of Holland High won the under-20 boys and girls 100m titles on Friday at the JAAA national championships at the National Stadium.

Martin’s performance was one of the biggest upsets of the championships as Jamaica College placed first and second in both the under-20 and under-18 finals.

Drawn in lane 2, Martin ran a personal best 10.37 seconds (0.4m/s) to win the final, just ahead of his teammate Dontae Watson who finished in 10.39 seconds, also a personal best. Kingston College’s Nyrone Wade was third in 10.43 seconds.

Favourite Douglas shrugged off a challenge from Theianna-Lee Terrelonge to win in a comfortable 11.08 seconds (0.1m/s). Terrelonge ran 11.18 seconds for second while Natrece East of Wolmer’s Girls was third with 11.46 seconds.

Kai Kelly won the under-18 boys title with 10.50 seconds (-0.2m/s), ahead of his teammate Tyler Morgan- 10.59 seconds, with Excelsior’s Michael Graham third with 10.64 seconds.

Malayia Duncan won the under-18 girls title with 11.82 seconds (-0.1m/s), beating Edwin Allen High’s Danelia Clarke – 11.87 seconds, with Veniesha Pottinger of Mt Alvernia High third with 11.93 seconds.
