Makhanya has fitted in like a glove at the heart of the Rangers defence since his switch from the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit during the pre-season transfer window.
The South African has already earned praise from pundits and former Rangers players for his early-season displays, with some going as far as calling him the signing of the season.
Best Signing of the 49ers Era
According to Football Fancast, Makhanya has been hailed as the best signing made by 49ers Enterprises — the same organisation that owns NFL side San Francisco 49ers — since their takeover of Rangers, with majority owner Andrew Cavanagh credited for the deal.
Makhanya has hit the ground running and immediately established himself as a starter in Derek McInnes’ side.
He has featured in the last 11 games, playing every minute, and helped the team to keep six clean sheets, including two in their last two games against Old Firm rivals, Celtic.
Makhanya’s Commanding Start at Ibrox
Therefore, it is hard to look past Makhanya being the best signing made by the 49ers and Cavenagh since their takeover last year, as no other outfield player has been as impactful as quickly as he has been at Ibrox.
