Libya’s Mufti: International community misleads Libyans over elections and stability

Libya’s Mufti, Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani, said anyone who believes that the international community, particularly the United States, is seeking stability in Libya is mistaken.

Speaking during his weekly program on Tanasuh TV, Al-Gharyani said the international community wants Libya to remain a failed state and seeks to take from the country rather than give to it. He added that Libyan officials seek the approval of the international community in order to remain in power.

Al-Gharyani said Libya has been trapped in a vicious cycle for years, accusing the international community of repeatedly misleading the Libyan people and referring to what he described as the “lies” of the UN mission.

He also drew comparisons with killings and conflicts in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Sudan and Yemen, arguing that the international community does not seek the interests of those countries or Libya.
