Libya is preparing to take part in the “Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games”, which will be held in the Italian city of Taranto from August 21 to September 3, 2026, bringing together athletes from 26 Mediterranean countries.
The Libyan delegation will consist of nine athletes competing in seven sports: athletics, weightlifting, karate, fencing, archery, rowing, and pétanque.
The participation is part of the Libyan Olympic Committee’s efforts to strengthen Libya’s presence at regional and international sporting events while providing young athletes with the opportunity to gain experience and compete against some of the Mediterranean region’s top competitors.
The participating athletes are receiving support through the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship Program, implemented by the Libyan Olympic Committee in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee, to nurture promising sporting talent and provide the training and preparation needed for continental and international competitions.
The Libyan Olympic Committee is relying on these programs to develop a new generation of athletes capable of achieving strong results in the future, reaffirming its commitment to supporting champions and emerging talents while providing the conditions needed to enhance their performance and raise Libya’s flag at international sporting events.
The Libyan delegation hopes to deliver a strong performance at Taranto 2026 and achieve results that reflect the progress of Libyan sport, with expectations that the event will serve as another step toward preparing athletes capable of competing at future Olympic Games.
