Libya allocates 600 scholarships for chadian students in medicine and engineering

Chad’s Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Vocational Training, Sitack Yombatina, met with a delegation of senators representing the Chad–Libya Friendship Group to review the outcomes of their recent parliamentary visit to Libya and the agreements reached to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, held on Monday, July 6, 2026, the delegation announced that the Libyan authorities had decided to allocate 200 scholarships annually for Chadian students over a period of three years, bringing the total to 600 scholarships. The scholarships will focus on medicine and engineering, supporting Chad’s efforts to train qualified professionals and meet labor market demands for specialized expertise.

According to the Chadian News and Publishing Agency, the delegation was led by Zakaria Mohamed Saleh, head of the Chad–Libya Friendship Group in the Senate. He said the five-day visit to Libya was conducted at the invitation of the High Council of State and with the approval of Senate President Haroun Kabadi. The delegation held meetings with several Libyan officials, including Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, as well as ministers responsible for higher education and international cooperation.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in higher education and scientific research, supporting university faculty members and researchers, developing academic exchange programs, increasing scholarships for Chadian students, and strengthening cooperation between King Faisal University in Chad and the Libyan Academy.

The talks also covered reviewing and updating bilateral agreements on higher education to simplify administrative procedures for students and researchers, exploring the establishment of a new Chadian university with support from Libyan expertise, and activating academic cooperation agreements in line with current needs.

The Chadian minister welcomed the Libyan initiative, describing the scholarships as an important opportunity to strengthen human capital development in Chad. He affirmed the ministry’s readiness to make the best use of the program and to establish a legal framework that ensures the continuity of the partnership and the expansion of scientific and academic cooperation between Libya and Chad.
