LERC Licenses Four Electrical Firms to Improve Safety

MONROVIA, August 5, 2026 – The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has awarded Class A Electrical Contractor Professional Licenses to four companies as part of efforts to improve safety standards, professionalize the electrical sector, and reduce fire hazards across Liberia.

The newly licensed companies are Best Solar Incorporated, Extrow Energies, Electric Construction and Control System, and Excellent Electric Group of Companies.

Speaking during the certification ceremony, LERC Board Chairman Claude J. Katta described the licensing exercise as a significant step toward ensuring that only qualified professionals undertake electrical installations and related services in the country.

He commended the Commission’s technical team and the Liberia Legal and Public Affairs (LLPA) Unit for their contributions to the licensing process and praised the companies for complying with regulatory requirements.

“I want to thank you for your courage in trying to make things right by obtaining a license to carry out your work,” Katta said.

He urged the companies to use their licenses to expand their businesses and create employment opportunities for Liberians.

“You will use this license to grow your businesses, employ more Liberians, and gradually build enterprises that will benefit the entire country,” he said.

Katta linked the licensing initiative to growing concerns over electrical fires, noting that many incidents are believed to result from poor electrical installations carried out by unqualified individuals.

“We have experienced many fires, and in some cases they are caused by unqualified people. We are trying to straighten all of that by licensing electrical professionals so that the public can be confident they are hiring people with the right qualifications and credentials,” he said.

He assured the public that LERC will continue enforcing compliance with the country’s electricity laws and regulations to promote safety and accountability across the sector.

Receiving the licenses on behalf of Best Solar Incorporated, Chief Executive Officer Rocheforte Padmore welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important step toward raising professional standards in Liberia’s electrical industry.

“We appreciate the opportunity to support LERC’s objective of standardizing electrical practices in Liberia. Best Solar is committed to implementing best practices, maintaining high professional standards, and ensuring safety and compliance in all our operations,” Padmore said.

Representatives of Excellent Electric Group of Companies also praised the Commission for introducing a licensing regime, noting that electrical work is inherently hazardous and requires proper regulation to protect both technicians and the public.

Meanwhile, Isaac H. Attiogbe, speaking on behalf of Extrow Energies, described the license as “an incentive for good” and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting LERC’s regulatory efforts.

“Our company believes in trust, standards, and accuracy. We are committed to supporting LERC in addressing energy sector challenges and will continue to cooperate fully with the Commission,” Attiogbe said.

He added that safety remains a core value of the company and pledged strict adherence to all electrical safety regulations.

LERC said the licensing process is being implemented under the 2025 Electricity Act as part of broader efforts to professionalize the electrical industry, protect consumers, and promote credible energy service providers in Liberia.

The Commission said additional electrical professionals and contractors will be licensed in the coming months as it continues to strengthen regulatory oversight of the sector.
