Jesus Garcia named new math and science principal at South Jamaica charter school – QNS
Jesus A. Garcia has been named the new principal of Advanced Math and Science IV at United Charter High Schools (UCHS) in South Jamaica, which is part of one of the largest public charter high school networks in New York State.
“I am honored to take on this role and join the AMS IV community,” Garcia said. “I’m excited to get to know our students and families, and work closely with our teachers and staff, building on the strong foundation already in place at AMS IV. Together, we’ll continue to create opportunities for every student to grow academically, discover their strengths, and leave high school prepared for the future.”
Garcia comes to the charter school’s AMS IV campus from the UCHS Advanced Math and Science II campus in the Bronx, where he served as assistant principal and athletic director, and was part of the school’s senior leadership team.
During his time as assistant principal overseeing 12th grade students, Garcia supported the Class of 2026 in achieving a 100% graduation rate.
He comes to AMS IV with more than a decade of experience in education and school leadership in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn. Throughout his career, the school noted, Garcia has worked closely with teachers to strengthen classroom learning, use data to respond to students’ needs and foster environments where students are supported and their achievements are celebrated.
Prior to joining the UCHS network, Garcia served as High School Director at the American Dream Charter School in the Bronx, where he oversaw academics, school culture and operations for nearly three years.
“Dr. Garcia is an experienced educator and school leader who brings a strong background in instructional leadership, student achievement, school culture and family engagement,” said Curtis Palmore, CEO of UCHS. “He is committed to UCHS students and understands the importance of creating a community where young people feel known, valued and prepared to succeed. We are excited to welcome him to AMS IV and confident he will build on the school’s strengths.”
Garcia is completing a doctorate in Educational Leadership at Russell Sage College, with a concentration in system-level leadership and organizational development, and has successfully defended his dissertation research.
He holds Master of Science degrees in Educational Leadership and Special Education, and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Secondary English Education from the City College of New York. He also earned a certificate under the Data Wise Leadership Institute from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
