Japan sets FIBA World Cup three-point records against Mali
Japan defeated Mali 102:97 in the opening game of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany. The Japanese team made 20 three-point shots, setting a tournament record, The Japan Times reports.
Record three-pointers
Japan made 57.1% of its shots from beyond the three-point line. Its 20 successful long-range shots set a World Cup record for the most made three-pointers in a single game.
The Group A matchup was the tournament’s opening game. Mali put up physical and persistent resistance, but Japan secured the victory thanks to efficient offense and accurate long-range shooting.

Saki Hayashi’s record
Saki Hayashi was the game’s top scorer with 27 points. All of them came from nine successful three-point shots.
Hayashi’s nine long-range makes also set a FIBA Women’s World Cup record for a single player in one game.
