Jamaican, wanted in Cayman, rescued at sea

(CNS): A Jamaican national who was wanted by the RCIPS for attempted murder was arrested in Jamaica after he and two other men, a Caymanian and another Jamaican national, were rescued at sea on Saturday night by a cargo vessel. Michael Gollab (22) had been on the run for two months after allegedly trying to kill a woman, whom he knew, during an altercation at a George Town Bar in June.

In a press release, the police said that at around 9:30pm, Gollab was found aboard the J Big Cot, a distressed, broken-down boat that the ship encountered en route from here to Jamaica. The cargo ship crew rescued the men, who had been drifting at sea for about five days.

All three men were taken to Kingston, which was the cargo vessel’s next scheduled port of call. After they arrived on Sunday night, one of the men was identified as Gollab. All three men were handed over to police in Jamaica, and they remain in police custody there, the RCIPS said.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the RCIPS, in collaboration with regional partners, including the Jamaica Constabulary Force,” the RCIPS said, thanking the public for assistance in trying to locate Gollab over the last few weeks.
