Iraq to launch portal for 1M residential plots project in September

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) — The Iraqi government will officially launch the dedicated digital registration platform for its flagship “One Million Residential Plots” initiative on September 1, 2026, targeting citizens who have never previously benefited from state land allocations, government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi announced on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Al-Aboudi confirmed that the first batch of serviced land parcels—exceeding 250,000 plots developed in coordination with the private sector—is fully prepared across various governorates. The government is also evaluating structured bank lending programs to assist eligible citizens with residential construction financing.

• Strict Eligibility Criteria: The initiative is restricted exclusively to Iraqi citizens who have not received prior land grants, housing allocations, or state residential real estate.
• First Batch Scale: More than 250,000 fully serviced residential plots (equipped with water, electricity, sewage, and road networks) have been prepared nationwide under public-private development partnerships.
• Construction Loan Mechanisms: The federal government, in coordination with state and private commercial banks, is assessing low-interest housing loan packages to support plot recipients in constructing single-family housing units.

The digital launch follows executive directives issued on August 9, 2026, by Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi, instructing ministries and provincial municipal directorates to initiate executive procedures in governorates where land zoning and site demarcation have been completed.

Municipalities have accelerated land surveying and partitioning over recent weeks.
