Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq and Syria are seeking greater security and economic cooperation in response to rising regional challenges.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi sent a message on Wednesday to Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa with the chief of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS), Hamid al-Shatri, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The message highlighted strategies to strengthen bilateral relations and increase collaboration between the two countries to address the security and economic crises in the region.
Al-Sharaa reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to collaborating with Iraq to overcome common challenges resulting from recent developments in the region.
The Syrian president also emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral collaboration, notably in the security and economic areas.
The Middle East has been on heightened alert since the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran in late February, resulting in Iranian offensives against Israel and other neighboring countries hosting US forces.
On April 8, a temporary truce was achieved, but discussions stopped due to disagreements over how to force a cessation of hostilities.
