Iraq opens its first IMAX cinema in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq has inaugurated its first IMAX theater at the Iraq Mall in Baghdad, introducing the premium large-screen movie format to the nation for the first time.

Sarwa Abdul Wahid, the Acting Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, formally opened the new Iraqi Cinema branch in the mall, adding to Baghdad’s fast expanding entertainment and leisure sector.

According to IMAX’s official listing, the Iraq Mall site in Baghdad has an IMAX with Laser auditorium and stadium seating.

The launch allows Iraqi consumers to see important worldwide movies in IMAX without having to fly abroad, like Christopher Nolan’s 2026 blockbuster The Odyssey.

The film, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o, was the first feature film filmed exclusively on IMAX film cameras.

The Odyssey has also emerged as one of 2026’s greatest box office triumphs, earning more over $260 million globally in its first weekend.

Iraqi Cinema is now offering daily IMAX screenings of the film at its Iraq Mall location.

IMAX brings another worldwide entertainment option to Baghdad, as Iraq seeks additional investment in retail malls, restaurants, hotels, theaters, and other leisure developments, while also growing its domestic tourist and entertainment sectors.
