Interior ministry launches second phase of migrant return programme

The Ministry of Interior has launched the second phase of a national programme to deport irregular migrants, in coordination with international organisations and relevant authorities.

Officials met in Tripoli on Sunday, alongside ambassadors from African and Arab countries and representatives of international bodies, to review progress and accelerate returns.

The ministry said discussions focused on coordinating return flights, facilitating travel documents and strengthening cooperation with countries of origin to ensure “safe and dignified” returns in line with national and international standards.

It added that efforts are under way to improve migration management systems and boost cooperation with international partners to support deportation programmes and strengthen border security.

The programme was first launched in late 2025, with initial large-scale return flights beginning in December.
