“Impossible Is Nothing”: Olumide Aturu Unveils Ambitious Vision for 5Stars Premier League Season 8

The Managing Director of 5Stars Premier League, Olumide Aturu, has unveiled an ambitious blueprint for the competition’s eighth season, declaring that grassroots football in Nigeria can become a powerful vehicle for youth development, social impact, and international opportunity.

Speaking at the Season 8 Press Conference and Unveiling Ceremony in Abuja, Aturu reflected on the league’s remarkable journey from a local football initiative to one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing grassroots football platforms.

Addressing stakeholders, players, partners, and members of the media, Aturu emphasized that the 5Stars Premier League has evolved beyond organizing football matches and is now focused on protecting young athletes, creating career pathways, and building sustainable structures within African football.

“We are not just here for football,” Aturu said. “We are here to inspire people, change lives, and show that a structure can work in Nigeria. Young people can build something meaningful from small beginnings.”

One of the major highlights of the event was the league’s growing international partnership with Mission 89, the Switzerland-based organization dedicated to protecting young athletes from trafficking, exploitation, and unsafe migration in sports.

According to Aturu, many talented young footballers across Africa are often exposed to fake contracts, unlicensed agents, and dangerous promises of overseas opportunities due to lack of education and proper guidance.

“A lot of players just want to travel abroad,” he explained. “But it is not only about traveling. It is about surviving, succeeding, and understanding your rights. If you are not properly informed, you become vulnerable.”

To address these challenges, Season 8 will feature player education programs focused on contract awareness, player welfare, career development, sports entrepreneurship, and alternative professions within the football ecosystem.

Aturu stressed that while every young player dreams of becoming a professional footballer, only a small percentage will ultimately reach the elite level.

“Not everybody will become a professional footballer,” he said. “From a hundred talented players, maybe three or five will make it. The rest must understand that there are many opportunities in sports — coaching, scouting, administration, physiotherapy, sports business, media, and management.”

The football administrator also highlighted several success stories produced through the 5Stars platform, revealing that more than 18 players who participated in previous editions are now playing professionally abroad.

One of the league’s most inspiring stories involved a former Most Valuable Player who progressed from grassroots football to competing against Turkish giants Galatasaray less than two years after being discovered through the competition.

“These moments give us goosebumps,” Aturu said. “They remind us that impossible is truly nothing.”

Despite the success, Aturu disclosed the personal sacrifices made by members of the organizing team to keep the project alive.

“We have sold cars, sold properties, and invested our personal resources because we believe in the future of what we are building,” he revealed.

The Season 8 theme, “Impossible Is Nothing,” reflects the league’s determination to continue expanding opportunities for young footballers across Nigeria and beyond.

Aturu also called on corporate organizations, volunteers, football stakeholders, and government agencies to support grassroots football development, insisting that community-driven football structures can transform lives and strengthen national unity.

“We are all one Nigeria,” he said. “Let us focus on the bigger goal of developing grassroots football and giving young people hope. Together, we can build something bigger than ourselves.”

As preparations begin for the new season, expectations are high that the 5Stars Premier League will continue to serve as a launchpad for emerging talents while promoting education, player protection, and sustainable growth within African football.

For many of the young players in attendance, the message was clear: football is not only about chasing dreams abroad — it is about building a future, creating opportunities, and proving that with the right platform, impossible is truly nothing.
