IGP Disu Intensifies Efforts To Rescue Abducted Worshippers In Niger

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to securing the safe release of worshippers abducted in Dekara, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Disu said the police, working alongside other security agencies, had intensified operations aimed at rescuing the victims and restoring security in the affected communities.

The IGP made this known on Saturday during a visit to the Niger State Police Command, where he assessed the security situation, reviewed ongoing operations and provided additional operational support to the command.

He said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen the rescue operation and identify practical solutions to the operational challenges facing security personnel in the state.

Disu condemned the abduction of the worshippers, noting that the country remained concerned about ensuring their safe and timely release.

The IGP disclosed that tactical and counter-terrorism teams, the Special Intervention Squad and Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel had been deployed as part of efforts to rescue the victims and improve security across the affected communities.

He warned that attacks on innocent citizens could have serious consequences beyond immediate security concerns.

According to him, attacks on civilians also threaten economic activities and development in Niger State and Nigeria as a whole.

Disu directed officers and personnel of the Niger State Command to remain vigilant, proactive and committed to carrying out their duties professionally.
